It is basically a structured field observation and interviewing method, based on a few core principles that differentiate this method from plain, journalistic interviewing or market research.
Contextual inquiry is more of a discovery process than an evaluation process; it is based on two core principles:
- Understanding the context in which a product is used (the work being performed), as it is essential for elegant design.
- The user is a partner in the design process.
