When presented with a product idea, feature, or a challenge, a typical first reaction is to begin designing a solution. Someone says do "this", and instantly people begin doing it. Thus, any creativity is narrowed into tunnel vision. Opportunities for radically new and valued ideas and directions have been stymied. First take a step outside of the box to view the larger picture. What are the assumptions? What are the projected goals and required goals? Brainstorming is our form of exploration in which we take that step back in order to view the larger picture. The term Brainstorming has become a commonly used word in the English language as a generic term for creative thinking. The basis of brainstorming is generating ideas in a group situation based on the principle of suspending judgment - a principle which scientific research has proved to be highly productive in individual effort as well as group effort.
